GENEVA (AP) — The U.N. refugee agency warned Tuesday of “further displacement” of people from Sudan after thousands streamed into neighboring Chad and South Sudan despite a tenuous cease-fire between the two warring Sudanese generals battling for control of the country. The fighting has plunged Sudan into chaos, pushing the already heavily aid-dependent African nation to the brink of collapse. Since the clashes erupted on April 15, at least 20,000 Sudanese have fled into Chad and some 4,000 South Sudanese refugees — who had been living in Sudan — have returned to their home country, UNHCR spokeswoman Olga Sarrado said Tuesday. The figures could rise, she cautioned. Sarrado did not have figures for the five other countries neighboring Sudan, but UNHCR has cited unspecified numbers of those fleeing Sudan arriving in Egypt.“The fighting looks set to trigger further displacement both within and outside the country,” she said, speaking at a U.N. briefing in Geneva. The UNHCR was scaling ...Líder opositor Juan Guaidó llegó a Miami tras salir de Colombia

(CNN) — Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo altered an analysis released by the Florida Department of Health last year to suggest mRNA Covid-19 vaccines pose a significant health risk to men ages 18 to 39, Politico reported Monday.Politico said it obtained a document as part of a public records request that shows Ladapo’s changes to the eight-page analysis. The changes deleted comments that said a link with slightly increased risk of cardiac-related deaths after Covid-19 vaccination was “no longer significant” for multidose vaccines and “there is little suggestion of any effect immediately following vaccination.” The document shows an added line that says mRNA vaccines may be driving an increased risk of cardiac-related death in males, especially those ages 18-39.The version released publicly in October 2022 said Covid-19 vaccination was “associated with a modestly increased risk for cardiac-related mortality 28 days following vaccinat...Police release identity of man who barricaded himself in vehicle after carjacking

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said there is a “huge biological risk” after fighters in Sudan seized the country’s national public laboratory holding samples of diseases including polio and measles.“There is a huge biological risk associated with the occupation of the central public health lab,” said Nima Saeed Abid, the WHO’s representative in Sudan on Tuesday, talking to reporters in Geneva via video link.Fighters “kicked out all the technicians from the lab … which is completely under the control of one of the fighting parties as a military base,” Abid said, adding that this created an “extremely, extremely dangerous” situation.A power struggle between Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemeti,” has plunged Sudan into fierce fighting. LONDON — The U.K. is “always” trying to “find ways to minimize unnecessary waiting times for British nationals,” Rishi Sunak’s spokesperson said Tuesday, following a report the prime minister is seeking a deal with the EU to cut post-Brexit passport checks.Bloomberg reported that Sunak, who has sought to repair ties with the European Union after years of post-Brexit acrimony under his predecessor, is eyeing an agreement with the bloc that would allow British citizens to sail through the EU’s electronic gates for passport checks.Since Brexit, most British travelers making their way through the bloc’s airports have been expected to queue for a manned desk, where passports are checked and then stamped.Bloomberg said British diplomats had raised the matter informally. Pressed on that report Tuesday, a spokesperson for Sunak said they were not aware of any “live discussions to that end,” but that the U.K. would “always want to f...Harry Belafonte, radical activist and entertainer with a ‘rebel heart,’ dies at 96
