CLEVELAND (AP) — Ryan Yarbrough completed a journey he never expected to take. Two months after suffering facial fractures when he was struck by a 106 mph line drive, Yarbrough returned to the mound Sunday and helped the struggling Kansas City Royals to a 4-1 win over Cleveland that felt extra special.“More than I could have dreamed of,” Yarbrough said. With his wife, daughter and other family members at Progressive Field, Yarbrough (2-4), who didn’t know what the future held when he was smashed by the liner from Oakland’s Ryan Noda on May 7, pitched six solid innings as the Royals ended a six-game skid.Yarbrough’s statistical line was less important than him returning from a frightening moment that could have ended his career.“I have an understanding of what happened and coming back from it and what could have been and how lucky and blessed I am,” said the 31-year-old left-hander. “It’s just been great and the amount of support from the guys, especially after the ga...De La Cruz’s four hits lead Marlins to series-win over Phillies

MIAMI (AP) — Bryan De La Cruz homered among his four hits as the Miami Marlins beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 on Sunday.Jesús Sánchez and rookie Dane Myers also went deep for the Marlins, who reached the All-Star break with their best record in franchise history at 53-39.“It’s been fun to watch them grow,” Marlins first-year manager Skip Schumaker said. “There is a lot of belief in that clubhouse that we’re ready to win, and they’ve proved it.”Marlins starter Jesús Luzardo (8-5) struck out nine and allowed four hits over 6 1/3 innings. The left-hander gave up two runs and was lifted after he plunked Bryson Stott, who had two of the hits against Luzardo. He took steps toward Stott during his walk to first and they briefly exchanged words.“Obviously, I was not intentionally trying to throw at anyone,” Luzardo said in Spanish. “I believe someone in the dugout didn’t like that I was pitching inside but that is part of the game. As a pitcher, if you stay on only one side of the plate...Biden says war with Russia must end before NATO can consider membership for Ukraine

(CNN) — President Joe Biden told CNN in an exclusive interview that Ukraine is not yet ready for NATO membership, saying that Russia’s war in Ukraine needs to end before the alliance can consider adding Kyiv to its ranks.Biden told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria that while discussion of Ukraine’s imminent membership in NATO was premature, the US and its allies in NATO would continue to provide President Volodymyr Zelensky and his forces the security and weaponry they need to try to end the war with Russia.Biden spoke to Zakaria ahead of his weeklong trip to Europe, which includes a NATO summit in Lithuania where Russia’s war in Ukraine and Zelensky’s push for NATO membership will be among the key issues looming over the gathering.“I don’t think there is unanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, at this moment, in the middle of a war,” Biden said. “For example, if you did that, then, you know – and I mean what I say – we’re determined to commit every inc...Lowell police ask for help in search for missing 7-year-old girl

The Yankees fired hitting coach Dillon Lawson on Sunday, marking the first time a coach has been let go in-season under general manager Brian Cashman. The team has not named a replacement for Lawson, who assumed the hitting coach role before the 2022 season and has been with the Yankees organization for five years. The Yankees have a team batting average of .231 through 91 games, which ranks 28th out of the 30 MLB teams. Only the 39-50 Detroit Tigers and 25-67 Oakland A’s are worse.“It has been well documented that I have been reluctant in the past to make changes to our coaching staff in the middle of a season,” Cashman said in a statement Sunday. “I am a big believer that successes and failures are collective efforts. However, I ultimately felt that a change was needed and that a new voice overseeing our hitting operations would give us the best chance to perform closer to our capabilities as we move forward into the second half of our season.”This is a...Boston Police make arrest tied to Mattapan mass shooting, recover loaded gun

Novak Djokovic’s match was suspended

By HOWARD FENDRICH (AP Tennis Writer)WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Twice, Iga Swiatek was a single point from exiting Wimbledon on Sunday, a single point from the sort of confounding defeat at the place that gives her so much more trouble than any of the other Grand Slam tournaments.Down a set and 6-5 in the second against Belinda Bencic, the No. 1-ranked Swiatek steeled herself and dispensed with the pair of match points. She erased the first with a booming forehand, the second with a forceful backhand, and soon enough, Swiatek was not just back in the contest, she was controlling it.Frustrated in the late afternoon sunshine at Centre Court, so close to defeat in the early evening shadows, Swiatek managed to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time by coming back for a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-3 victory over the 14th-seeded Bencic.“I threw everything I could at her,” Bencic said, “and I pushed her to the limit.”Swiatek, a 22-year-old from Poland who...Latest news
