AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Christopher Sargent hit a three-run home run, Dustin Dickerson hit two solo shots, and Southern Miss defeated Auburn 7-2 on Saturday, eliminating the Tigers from their own regional.A solo shot by Danny Lynch in the eighth inning gave the Golden Eagles four home runs for the game.Second-seeded Southern Miss (42-18) will play on Sunday against the loser of Saturday’s other game between No. 4 Penn and No. 3 Samford.Sargent’s first-inning home run got the Golden Eagles started and the 3-0 lead was enough as Auburn managed only a pair of RBI singles — by Chris Stanfield and Cooper McMurray — in the sixth inning.Starter Billy Oldham (7-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. NEW YORK (AP) — Howard Johnson and Al Leiter were inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame prior to the team’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.Johnson played for New York from 1985 through 1993. He ranks third in team history with 202 stolen bases and fourth in both homers (192) and RBIs (629). Leiter grew up a Mets fan in New Jersey before pitching for the team from 1998 through 2004.The 62-year-old Johnson played his first big league game in 1982 for Detroit and his last one with the Chicago Cubs in 1995. “There’s probably not a day goes by that you don’t think about that — being able to play the game that we did when we were 25, play at that level,” Johnson said. “Every time you get out of bed is a reminder that was a long time ago. A fire ripped through a historic church in Spencer Friday, toppling the structure’s steeple and drawing a massive emergency response. “For a lot of folks its a death in the family, for folks who have gone through life milestones here from baptisms to weddings to funerals, it’s devastating,” Rev.
