Multiple families were forced to evacuate their homes in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles after an intense fire ripped through a parking garage and destroyed two vehicles. No one was injured in Saturday morning’s fire, and firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they spread to any apartment buildings. The blaze took place around 2 a.m. Saturday morning in the 400 block of North Curson Avenue and follows a series of other arsons in the Fairfax District that have left residents on edge. One man had his 1991 Ford F-150 torched on South Orange Drive on Wednesday, and the same arsonist may have also targeted another woman’s vehicle just one block away. (KRON) -- The Bay Area is the most expensive place in the country to own a home, according to a new Redfin report. The report says the Bay Area has the highest homeownership premiums, where it’s twice as expensive to buy a home than it is to rent. Mortgage rates have gone up everywhere, but in San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland more homes are considered high end. The interest rates of those homes are what make them so much more expensive to own.The high cost of living isn’t news to Bay Area residents, but for those deciding between renting or owning a home, Redfin says it’s a cheaper option to rent here.Chief Economist at Redfin, Daryl Fairweather says that’s because of higher mortgage rates and the interest on them.“Having a really large amount of debt it allows that compounding to kind of accumulate faster than if it was a small amount of debt. So that’s it hurts a bit harder in the most high-end markets,” Fairweather said. The Redfin report listed San Jose as having the largest h...Dog suffers injuries after falling over cliff in San Francisco

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden welcomed hundreds to the White House on Saturday for a delayed Pride Month celebration aimed at showing LGBTQ+ people that his administration has their back at a time when advocates are warning of a spike in discriminatory legislation, particularly aimed at the transgender community, sweeping through statehouses. The event, which the administration described as the largest Pride event hosted at the White House, was initially scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed because of poor air quality from hazardous air flowing in from Canadian wildfires. But the haze that blanketed a huge swath of the East Coast this past week had lifted over the nation’s capital, allowing the president and first lady Jill Biden to hold their South Lawn party.“So today, I want to send a message to the entire community — especially to transgender children: You are loved. BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Movie director James Cameron says he feels he “walked into an ambush” this week during a visit to Argentina in which he believes there was an attempt to use his image as an environmentalist to give a positive spin to lithium mining operations despite Indigenous opposition.Cameron, the director of “Avatar” and “Titanic,” said Friday he would now devote attention and money from his Avatar Alliance Foundation to support Indigenous communities opposing lithium operations in South America.“Ironically, the outcome of this is that I am now aware of the problem and we will now assist through my foundation with the issue of Indigenous rights with respect to lithium extraction,” Cameron told a group of journalists gathered in his hotel room in the capital of Buenos Aires Friday evening.Cameron came to Argentina this week to speak at a sustainability conference in Buenos Aires on Friday.“I believed that I was coming here to make a kind of motivational speech abou...Latest news
